According to the module, stereotypes are oversimplified generalizations about an entire category of people that frequently appear in daily social interaction. When looking at stereotypes, the one that can be most easily identified is the gender stereotype. There are some certain roles or actions left to certain genders. For example, there is a stereotype that men should not cry as it is only meant for women. The latest example seen over the last few days is during the world cup. When men are eliminated from the competition, they cry uncontrollably. When Brazil was eliminated from the quarter finals, we saw Neymar and the other teammates crying, when Portugal was eliminated, we also saw Cristiano Ronaldo crying. Trevor Noah says that men should learn to be comfortable with crying as people find it weird for men to cry especially in public.According to the module, prejudice Involves negative attitudes, beliefs, and feelings toward certain groups of people. In chapter 12.5, prejudice results in large part from self-concern. Racism is one of the most common forms of prejudice in the society. There are instances of white cops targeting blacks and blacks targeting white cops. This is based on the negative thoughts that people have. When George Floyd was killed by the policeman, it was because he was black and the police had negative thoughts about him due to his skin color. Everyday, we see over the news instances of white police killing unarmed black men.Discrimination, according to the module is the unfavorable treatment of people arising from negative stereotypes associated with prejudice. For example, a study published in the Independent shows that majority of Black Britons discriminated against by doctors and nurses. The study finds that Black women felt that practitioners were dismissive of their pain due to the misguided stereotype that the Black woman is strong.Reducing Prejudice. a)Improve educational outcomes. Discrimination can be reduced by educating more people on the idea of diversity. With diversity in play, people can learn to be more tolerant with one another and better understand the differences that exists between groups in a society. b)Increase intergroup contact. This is founded on the idea of contact hypothesis which holds the view that allowing inter groups to socialize reduces stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination. Children should be allowed to interact and play with other early enough so that they can grow with less discriminationDid student A do good including all 4 where can they improve?
