Question: Michigan is one of eleven states in the U.S. that is still enforcing restricted practice for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). Restricted practice or restricted authority is state legislation requiring a physician's career-long supervision for the APRN to provide patient care (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2022). In October of 2021, Senate Bill No. 680 was introduced. Bill No. 680 proposes amendments to the current Public Health code. The amendments would allow APRNs to prescribe all medications independently regardless of schedule. This would allow APRNs to provide patient care without a supervising provider (Senate Bill No. 680, 2021).
