Introduction & Needs Assessment
1) Introduction: Provide a clear and concise overview of the public health problem and the priority population for your health program.
2) Relevant Secondary Data: Use relevant secondary data to thoroughly and clearly describe the health problem and its impact on the priority population. Relevant data includes most of the following:
a) Death rate
b) Incidence and prevalence rates
c) Morbidity and mortality rates
d) Data demonstrating the economic burden of the problem
e) Cultural considerations
f) Data on social problems related to the heath problem
3) Risk factors: Research and discuss the factors that increases a person's chances of developing your health problem. Specifically discuss risk factors below:
a) Genetic Risk Factors: factors which are inborn or inherited characteristics and thus are genetic or biological causes. For example: age, gender, race, ethnicity, etc.
b) Behavioral Risk Factors: factors due to personal behavior or life-style. For example: smoking, diet, lack of exercise, seat-belt nonuse, sexual practices, etc.
c) Environmental Risk Factors: factors based on environmental exposure. For example: living conditions such as housing, transportation, food policies, access to care/services, etc.
4) Conclusion/Program Focus: Provide a clear and concise overview of the focus and purpose of your health program.
