The article develops the viewpoints that workplace harassment should be taken as the flu epidemic so that the harassment in the workplace can be addressed as flu with the same prevention-focused approach. The incidence of workplace harassment has exceeded the epidemic proportions thus calling for the organizations and HR professionals to prevent damaging incidents such as sexual harassment from occurring in the first place. The right training will involve assuring the employees that they work in a safe, respectful environment that supports healthy relationships. There is a need for harassment prevention training and workplace communication to promote a "positive, mutually beneficial goal: ending harassment at work." Overcoming the barriers of social norms and bystanders will involve everyone getting harassment prevention training like".

 

Handling and ending workplace harassment should start with defining it for all to understand. The risks lie in the growing efficacy of training itself as it is considered as one component of a comprehensive harassment prevention program. There is a need to address the reasons why the vast majority of employees experience workplace harassment and fail to report them. Data collection will help to generate policies and procedures to support commitment to accountable actions to those violating workplace policies. The risk of failing to report the negative events of workplace harassment is that they also become unhappy thus generating a toxic workplace that will eventually lower productivity.

The risks for continuous workplace harassment for women lead to the increasing gender wages gap. Women make up about half of the workforce but they take 70% of employees whose jobs are paid poorly. The understanding of workplace harassment leads to economic instability thus leading to the need for economic empowerment through wealth accumulation to achieve gender equity.
