Short answer question:
A reporter for the Toronto Star has uncovered that Leslie Roberts is co-owner of PR company BuzzPR. The problem is that Roberts is also a news anchor and host of the extremely popular "Global Mornings" on Global TV, and a long list of guests appearing on his show are also clients of BuzzRR. No disclosure was made. The reporter has further learned that Global conducted its own internal investigation but was satisfied no breach of policy had occurred. She presents this scoop to her editor but, after reviewing it and getting back to her, her editor tells her "Drop it. I believe all your sources but they've investigated it and there's nothing there." When she protests, he tells her curtly, "It is none of our business."
What may be behind Global's decision that there was no conflict of interest, and what might be behind the Star editor's decision to ignore the story? Is there an issue that needs to come to light? What should the reporter do? In a short response discuss why an ethical decision is necessary here; then provide an ethical solution using the Potter Box. Fully explain the reasoning. Connect your answer to larger concerns in journalistic practice and theory, referring to any ethical origins/philosophies you've relied on when solving the problem.
