In the absence of selection, drift, gene flow, or mutation, the frequency of an allele in a population will not change from one generation to the next. If none of these forces are acting, and there is random mating, then the frequency of genotypes in the population can be accurately predicted (e.g. if pA = frequency of A allele, the frequency of AA genotypes, pAA, will be pA*pA). However, things are more complicated with selection, drift, gene flow, or non-random mating. (6 points)

A. Consider a locus with two alleles, b1 and b2, in a population of bacteria (bacteria are haploid, an individual will have only one of the two alleles). Assume that b1 individuals have a reproductive rate that is 5% higher than b2 individuals, but that b1 and b2 do not differ in survival. 

Provide an equation for the expected frequency of the b1 allele in the next generation.

B. Given the scenario above, if b1 starts at a frequency = 0.2 (pb1 = 0.2), what is the expected frequency two generations later?

C. Now consider a locus with two alleles, d1 and d2, in a diploid population. Assume d1d1 and d1d2 genotypes have reproductive rates that are 10% greater than the reproductive rate of d2d2 genotypes (not the reproductive rates of d1d1 and d1d2 are equal). Given this scenario, provide an equation for the expected frequency of the d1 allele in the generation after the current generation (let pd1t=0 = frequency of the d1 allele in the current generation).
