Project Based Management

You are working as the senior project manager in your chosen case organisation and a senior executive has recently attended a conference in which various project management related matters listed below were discussed. The senior manager has asked you to provide advice in the form of a memorandum (you will be allowed a generous length) on these various matters in relation to your case organisation, supported by an infographic to provide a visual representation of your analysis and recommendations.

• Your advice is to be justified by recent and relevant scholarly (journal articles, eBooks and books) literature and include in-text citations and a reference list.
• Your advice will take into account the current organisational context.
• You will make recommendations on action to take in relation to all of the following five matters for consideration listed below.
• Each of the five matters should be given equal weighting in terms of word count.
• Equal marks are allocated to each of the five discussions and the infographic.

Organisational context: (300 words - dot points only)
• Select and describe a small to medium organisation (or an organisational unit of a large organisation) for your analysis.

• Introduce the reader to the current status of the organisation in relation to each of the five matters to be considered.

Matters for consideration: (approx. 2,850 words - paragraphs)

Use sub-headings to sign-post your analysis of each of the following in the context of your chosen organisation:
1. The benefits, if any, of the adoption of waterfall and/or agile methodologies for managing organisational projects.
2. Improvement of project governance by the organization.
3. Improvement of stakeholder engagement for projects.
4. Adoption of, or changes to, a Project Management Office.
5. The value, if any, of using a Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM) as a framework1 for assessing project management maturity within the organisation.

Recommendations: (250 words - dot points only)
• Provide a summary of your recommendations in dot point format under sub-headings for each of the five matters considered.

• No citations should be needed in the recommendations as justification from the literature for the recommendations has already been provided as part of your analysis.
• The recommendations should logically derive from your analysis and conclusions in each of the ‘matters for consideration' section.

Attachment 1 - Summary Infographic

• This should be a visualised one-page stand-alone summary that illustrates the key recommendations for each matter for consideration.

• It may also illustrate any relationships between the five matters.

• If possible, try to illustrate what problem may be solved and/or benefits may be achieved if the recommendations are adopted.

• It is to be a single-page graphic to support your discussion of the memorandum with the executive.

• It is recommended that you develop the infographic in MS PowerPoint or another application in which it is easy for you to work with graphics.

• Then export the infographic as a PDF or an image file and insert it into the attachment page of your memorandum. This will be after the recommendations and before the list of references.

• Ensure the resolution of the image is sufficient to be read easily on screen.

• You may also choose to make the attachment page a ‘landscape' orientation if your infographic is of landscape orientation.

• Do not include referencing in the infographic. However, all information should clearly link to the referenced information in the memorandum.
