Network Technologies - Diploma in Information Technology Software Development (Level 6)
Aim: To provide students with the knowledge of fundamental concepts of fundamental concepts of networking principles, area networks. Students will learn to configure, secure user systems and troubleshoot networks and will be introduced to the fundamentals of virtualisation and cloud technologies.
Purpose
The purpose of the assessment is to assess students' ability to discuss various networking principles such as topologies, network devices, reference models etc. to meet organisational requirements
Learning Outcome 1: Discuss the fundamentals of virtualisation and cloud technologies to identify its impact on an organisation.
Apply the fundamentals of IT technical support concepts and practice to securely manage hardware, software, and networking resources to support end users and meet security, ethical and organisational requirements

Scenario
Simply Solutions Ltd, a company based in Mount Eden has approached you to help them with their IT infrastructure. They currently have 1 office (Mount Eden) and are planning to expand their business by setting up 1 more office in Manukau.
Their current setup in Mount Eden is as follows:
• Physical Server 1 - Running Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS), DNS and DHCP
• Physical Server 2 - Running IIS (web server)
• Physical Server 3 - Running MS SQL (database server)
• The necessary network equipment to connect up their network (router, switches, WAPs, UTP cat6 cables, etc.)
The new branch in Manukau will have around 15 staff and will need access to the web server and the Database server.
The owner of Simply Solutions Ltd has heard about the cloud and the benefits of virtualization. As the owner is not tech savvy, you have been asked to write a report informing them how it would be possible to setup such a network.
