The Evolution of Portugal

Portugal is rich in history and even if you knew nothing about the country itself then the architecture tells a story. The country was and is shaped by its past but these different periods shaped modern-day Portugal into what it is today. Throughout the country, you'll see different styles, from Gothic cathedrals to Moorish castles each period in time brought with it a unique style of architecture and reasoning. 

Here is a list of the different architectural time periods, in chronological order (from earliest to latest):   

1. Moorish period (Castles and Mosques)
2. Romanesque style (1100 - c. 1230)
3. Gothic (c. 1200 - c. 1450)
4. Manueline style (c. 1490 - c. 1520)
5. Renaissance and Mannerism (c. 1520 - c. 1650)
6. Restoration architecture (1640-1717)
7. Baroque style (1717-1755)
8. Pombaline style (1755-1860)
9. Modern Architecture (today)

 Here is what you have to do:

1. First, select a time period.
2. In your own words, provide a short description of the type of architecture, how and why it originated, and in what region of Portugal can this architecture be found. (1 paragraph)
3. Find at least 2 images that represent the style of architecture you chose and describe some basic facts about each. (e.g. year/how long it took to build/where it is located)
