Provide a Formal Analysis of a Photograph from the Masters of Photography website. To critique work of art, you must describe it in terms of form (elements and principles of design) and provide an analysis of possible content or meaning. Your critique will need to address the following:

• Description
• What Do I See? Make a list of all specific things you see in the work.
• Include the size, medium, date made, and the title.
• Describe the composition by using art terminology you have learned in this course such as the Art Elements (line, shape, form, space, color, value and texture, space) and the Principles of Design (balance, unity, variety, composition, emphasis, repetition). Refer to your studies and quizzes from previous weeks to refresh your knowledge of these terms.

• Judgement and Personal Reaction: In a formal critique, you are expected to analyze as you describe. This means that you need to provide judgment and personal reaction or analysis of the work's meaning and impact on the viewer. Make these observations both by trusting your own judgements as well as by reading what experts have pointed out in the work. You will need to address the following:Explain why you think the artist chose this particular subject.
• Using your best judgement and and research available to you, explain what the artist seems to be trying to communicate through this image.
• Identify and explain any particular moods or emotions that you associate with the image.
• Briefly explain why this artist and this particular work appealed to you the most. What was it about this work that made you choose it to write about?

DISCUSSION INSTRUCTIONS

• Visit the Masters of Photography
• Look at the work of several photographers by clicking on their names and scrolling through their work to see if it interests you.
• Choose one photographer whose work appeals to you. Read any information about the photographer that is available on the website, and look up additional websites that discuss this artist's work.
• Choose one (1) photograph by the artist and insert (do not attach) it in the message box using the picture icon (not the paperclip). We need to be able to see the picture in the message box without having to click on it. See the instructions for how to place a picture in the link below.
• The photograph you choose should have something that interests you and causes a personal reaction.
• essay that describes the photograph using appropriate terminology from the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
• Your essay should also analyze the photograph's meaning. Refer to any reference information you can find to aid in your analysis of the work.
• This is not a biography so refrain from writing too much about the artist's life. Focus your writing on the description/analysis of the image itself.
