Choose an area of community services work you already work in or one you are interested in working in. For this project you will be taking on the role of an advocate for a client. Areas of advocacy include advocating for people who have a physical disability, advocating for people who have a mental disability, advocating for the elderly, advocating for parents, advocating for children in care, advocating for people who have a mental illness. 

Do the report that addresses the following:

1. The area in which you are advocating.
2. Provide a brief outline of your client's circumstances and the reason they require you to act as advocate.
3. What are you advocating for?
4. What are the potential barriers facing your client?

(Note: the client may be hypothetical, however if based on a real client make sure you remove all personal details due to privacy and confidentiality). 

1. Explain what skills and knowledge your client should be provided with in order to help them advocate for themselves in the future.
2. Outline the rights and responsibilities that your client has under law provide a brief paragraph summarising these.
3. Explain how you would ensure that the client was aware of their rights and responsibilities, including your organisation's complaints mechanisms.
4. Explain what you would do if you felt that the client's rights were being infringed at any point.
5. Outline the strategies you would use to negotiate for your client.
6. List three organisations you would contact on behalf of your client and for what purpose.
7. Outline how you would keep your clients informed of your progress in advocating for them.
8. Explain how you will maintain the privacy and confidentiality of your clients while advocating for them.
9. Identify a situation of risk or potential risk that this client could find themselves in, and describe what your response to this situation would be.
10. Describe the steps you would take to develop, implement and monitor your advocacy strategies.
11. Explain what your duty of care requirements will be if a child who is not the client is involved in the advocacy process, including:
12. How you will monitor and respond to indicators of risk
13. Your responsibilities when it comes to privacy, disclosure and reporting for a child at risk.
