Portfolio assignments are intended to encourage your reflection on course topics in personally meaningful ways. There are no right or wrong answers. What will ultimately be valuable to you is the degree to which you think about the material and provide complete and well-thought-out answers. In this second assignment, you will research the culture of a specific country. You will be asked to write about the following:

1. Choice of Country

Choose a destination (one country) anywhere in the world. Explain why you chose this particular country.

2. Brief Cultural Overview

Provide a brief cultural overview of the country that may include historical background, language, religious beliefs, political structure, and other information you believe is pertinent. Provide references you use, cited in parentheses by title only, immediately after the information presented. For example: (CountryWatch)

3. Codes of Cultural Behavior

Conduct additional research on the codes of cultural behavior. Provide information on cultural "Do's" and "Dont's" for tourists. Analyze at least five "Do's" and at least five "Dont's." These will document the codes of cultural behavior in your selected country, which will assist tourists in avoiding conflict with the cultural values of the hosts. Your analysis should provide sufficient written detail beyond a simple list.

After each of the "Do's" and "Dont's," make certain that you provide the reference cited. The references may appear by title only, in parentheses, after each listing. For example: (CountryWatch)

4. Unusual Aspects of Culture

Explain which of the "Do's" and which of the "Dont's" seem most unusual to you, and might contribute to your unease in the country you chose.
