An ethical dilemma I encounter in this scenario is confidentiality. According to the 2017 NASW code: "Social workers should protect confidentiality of all information obtained in the course of professional service, except for compelling professional reasons" (Reamer, 2019). I would need to consult with colleagues or supervisors in regards to the situation. When consulting with others, I must be mindful of the privacy of the family and residents as to not violate this principle. Another ethical dilemma I encounter is advocacy for vulnerable groups. Given the entire apartment complex has been without water for 6 days and there has been no talk of a resolution, I have a duty to report the living situation as the residents are being deprived their basic human need for water. The ethical standard that applies here is standard 6.04(a): "Social workers should engage in social and political action that seeks to ensure that all people have equal access to the resources, employment, service, and opportunities they require to meet their basic human needs and to develop fully" (Reamer, 2019).
