Question

New technology developed at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children can screen a newborn's first bowel movement (meconium) for telltale signs that a mother drank too much alcohol during her pregnancy, thus putting her baby at risk for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Early detection can aid early intervention, but detractors say universal automatic testing is a violation of a mother's rights and comes too late to prevent harm to the baby. What are some key pros and cons of standard meconium testing for both mother and baby?
