Some of the supplemental reading materials raise the issue of government's attempt to help manage the obesity crisis in America by implementing regulatory initiatives to deal with it. Some of these initiatives might be designed to incentivize better eating habits by mandating better nutrition and portion-size labeling information, whereas other initiatives might try to punish poor eating habits/choices with higher prices, taxes, or food size restrictions. Thus, the question is: Should governmental agencies use their regulatory powers over business to restrict individuals' consumption of sugary drinks, high fat, or other "unhealthy" foods and consumables? Why or why not? What are the pros and cons of public policy initiatives like these? Could such public policy dilemmas be analyzed and resolved using virtues, rights, utilitarian or justice reasoning methods (see Chapter 5)? If yes, how so? If not, why not?
