For your discussion, let's shift our focus to the matter of individuals' and community's resistance to change. The example used in the lecture centered on the some people's worries about proposed changes in national health care policy. To support this example, see Kahneman and Tversky's (1979) notion of 'loss aversion' and the idea that many people will be more likely to try to avoid a loss rather than make a gain. Also, psychological homeostasis, and the feelings of anxiety that a change to the status quo can create, even when this change could be for the better, also sheds some light on people's reactions.
