Assume that you completed your education from the College in December 2021 and on January 2022, you were appointed Manager in Toronto by a foreign company, XYZ, which is marketing garments to several countries. Chose the country of origin of the foreign company. XYZ intends to sell garments in Canada also, targeting the major clothing store chains. The GM of the company, based in its headquarters in the foreign country, has asked you to do the following HR objectives in 2022: 

  1. Design an organization structure and make a manpower plan/chart outlining the jobs that would require to be filled for the company's marketing operations in Canada.
  2. Determine the compensation packages being offered in Canada and propose a compensation and benefits structure for the company.
  3. Identify the Canadian labor laws and legislation that the company would have to follow and develop a strategy for compliance.

The GM is patient and is not expecting immediate sales from you. He just wants you to achieve the company's 2022 objectives mentioned above. He knows that negotiating sales contracts in Canada will first require that a proper office be established, and a competent and motivated team be formed. This will take the whole of 2022. Besides, the HR policies and practices in Canada are not like other countries where people come from different cultures, have different competencies, the working environment, labor laws, social, and commercial environments are very different. You first need to understand and learn about the professionals that you will be hiring, their personal and professional requirements, their compensation and rewards, the issues of labor unions, and the related HR practices and procedures.
