The topic that concerns me immensely is about nursing-to-patient ratio problem. This is a critical health policy concern attributed to various challenges facing the healthcare system. The rapid growth of the aging population, cost-cutting initiatives, increased patients equity, and the retiring workforce has greatly impacted the working conditions among the nurses. Inadequate nurse staffing is known to cause stress and burnout among the nurses, which in turn causes poor patient care and undesirable patient health outcomes (Gutsan, Patton, Willis, & PH, 2018). The nurses working conditions can only be improved by ensuring appropriate nurse staffing across healthcare settings. Studies have established a positive relationship between a higher level of RN staffing with improved patient outcomes and remarkable satisfaction levels among the nurses.

With many experienced RNs retiring and leaving the profession for other reasons, the problem is expected to worsen with time. In other words, there is not an adequate supply of new nurses to replace those who are retiring, plus meet the increased demand of an aging population. To address this situation, it is necessary to address the underlying causes of nurse shortage. Improving the nurse working conditions, adopting modern technology, providing competitive wages, and providing nurses with an opportunity to advance their education may help to reduce nurse turnover.

In this assignment, you will propose a quality improvement initiative from your place of employment that could easily be implemented if approved. Assume you are presenting this program to the board for approval of funding. Write an executive summary (750-1,000 words) to present to the board, from which the board will make its decision to fund your program or project. Include the following:

1- The purpose of the quality improvement initiative.
2- The target population or audience.
3- The benefits of the quality improvement initiative.
4- The interprofessional collaboration that would be required to implement the quality improvement initiative.
5- The cost or budget justification.
6- The basis upon which the quality improvement initiative will be evaluated.
