Leadership is a lifetime journey with many curves and twists. However, in order to grow in your own development it's important to know where you are in this journey, and where you plan to go to achieve your goals. Use these four sections to guide your leadership discovery analysis.

1. Important Learning: Summarize what you learned through self-assessment concerning your leadership characteristics based on the various numerous self-assessments taken from text.

2. Personal Leadership Philosophy: Provide the leadership philosophy which will direct your behavior. This is your leadership platform. Offer a rational for the items that will comprise the leadership style(s) that will direct your behavior. Through utilizing an importance of your particular values coupled with a research basis you will construct your leadership platform of characteristics, styles, traits, behaviors, and/or leadership theories and models. The Personal Leadership Philosophy must contain a minimum of five specific characteristics, styles, traits, behaviors, and/or leadership theories or models.

3. Personal Leadership Plan: Propose a plan for your personal leadership growth and development over the next five years. Be specific, include courses of study, lateral career assignments, mentor relationships you intend to develop, and the progress review process you will use to assess your development. (Get into the research concerning leadership development to assist you in the formulation of a quality response.) Your Professional Leadership Plan must have a minimum of five specific items or actions.

4. Leadership Actions: Describe three actions you intend to do as a leader NOW at your place of work or in your general life activities. Provide a rationale of why you have selected such actions.

Feel free to use the S.M.A.R.T. goal process as it is useful in managing leadership plans and actions.

Goals for me are to be a business unit manager at John Deere.
