Proposal Writing (Woodgreen Organization)
As a business graduate of GBC, you are looking for work. At a networking event, you meet Sipho Kwaku, the Director of Youth Programs at the local non-profit organization Woodgreen ().
When Sipho finds out you're a business graduate, he tells you that Woodgreen has been interested in starting a new "youth entrepreneurship program" for some time but hasn't yet found the right person. You ask him for details. He says he'd like to create a six-week program that teaches young people without business experience the basics of running a business (including planning, finance/budgeting, marketing, human resources, and supply chain).
At the end of your chat, you ask Sipho for his email address and tell him you'll be sending him a proposal soon. The next day, you sit down to write an unsolicited letter-style proposal. Here is some information that may be useful:
- You've graduated from GBC with honours
- You've taken business courses in different areas including business planning, project management, finance, accounting, marketing, human resources, business communication, etc.
- You've been working part-time for the past five years as the administrative assistant for a property development company
- You've volunteered teaching business skills at your local high school
- You know that part-time teachers are generally paid between $50-$75 per hour of instruction time
- You have a good friend, Lila, who is a successful entrepreneur (she makes and sells candles and soaps through her online Etsy store) - she's interested in partnering with you
- You know that Woodgreen is a leader in offering youth and other services to under-privileged communities
Write two sections of an informal proposal to Sipho Kwoku: background and/or qualifications and/or authorization. If you don't have all the information you need, feel free to make up a few facts.
