Queer Youth Homelessness The housing need for queer youth is a fundamental requirement. Youth should not have to spend their time wondering where they are going to live on top of navigating all other parts of teen life. The need for safety for all youth is needed in order to prevent further homelessness. With effective prevention strategies such as education, resource collection, and government help, there can be a decrease in the number of unhoused youth.

PART 1: SCOPE AND CONSEQUENCES Queer Youth Homelessness In the Minneapolis area, there is an increasing rate of lgbtq+ homelessness. The percentage of teenagers who are homeless is 1-16% higher in non-cisgendered youth (Trevor Project, 2023). On top of there being a higher rate, there are many risk factors for youth who are homeless including higher risk of victimization, insecurity, anxiety, depression, and a number of other dangerous problems. These problems can lead to youth growing up with heightened risks for incarceration, drug use, or violence. This portfolio helps to address the mental and physical health crisis surrounding queer youth homelessness and provide prevention strategies.
