Brief description:
Student gets into the swimming pool and try multiple types of swimming posture.
Associated rules and steps:
Student goes into swimming pool with assisting adult. Adult will assist student in getting acquainted with different movements in water. Then, student will gradually begin swimming without assistance.
Modifications:
For student with Hemiplegia Cerebral Palsy, for the first few lessons, we can use extra equipment, such as bolster, float objects and belts, to assist child with swimming. After this stage, we can take away equipment, and student is able to swim freely.
For student with Severe Aggression, the lesson must be private lesson only. Avoid Group Lessons. The adult should accompany with the student for the entire session and focus on supporting the child when he or she needs anything. Do not force the child to do any movement that he or she does not want to do.
