1. In your discussion of the Indigo HR case study this week, describe a solution or recommendation that one of your class mates provided that you had not previously considered?
2. In the answer you provided for the last question, what struck you as being so interesting/effective in this perspective (of your classmate's idea)? Would you try this as a PM? Why or why not?
Case study: On your way back from lunch, you walk by Andrea Buckley's cubicle. Andrea is the prime HR SME on your project team and has been integral in collecting your HR requirements for the HR system Request for Proposal (RFP). She is a key team member as she has 15 years of experience with ABC Inc. She has many friends throughout the organization, one of which is Caroline Dempster.
Caroline Dempster is the Manager of Finance and is not a member of your Indigo HR project team. Caroline is, however, in Andrea's cubicle as you walk by. Lately, Caroline has been there often, sitting and chatting with Andrea. Today, it is not just Andrea and Caroline in the cubicle, but packed in there are your two business analysts, Kiran Dieter and Evan Dean, as well as Samantha Price, the IT Applications Advisor, and Jocasta Monette, the Human Resources Management System (HRMS) SME.
Earlier, at this morning's project status meeting, you provided direction that the team needs to work on the RFP as your project schedule has fallen behind due to the slow progress on Cindy's review. You can tell by the tone of the conversation that your team members are not working on the RFP draft. You are concerned.
Earlier this morning, after the project status meeting was complete, you went to Cindy Crane's office to have a chat with her and to try to understand what the status was on her deliverable, as well as understand the underlying reason(s) for her recent absence. She wasn't in her office. The HR executive assistant, Tammy Doesit, indicated that Cindy called in this morning. Cindy would be working from home again today. Tammy gave you Cindy's phone number and you gave Cindy a call once you returned to your office.
You had a very long talk with Cindy, who was audibly upset. She shared with you her frustration regarding the fact that she feels that Caroline Dempster is spreading rumours and talking poorly about Cindy to the project team members, and that because of this, the team members were losing respect for Cindy. Cindy is a very quiet and shy individual who does not like confrontation. Cindy finds it stressful that Caroline and the others are talking about her behind her back. Cindy doesn't feel like working at the office to see this go on, so she has opted lately to work from home.
When you ask Cindy how she is progressing on the review of the requirements, she tells you that she isn't far along at all because she needs to ask Andrea some questions, but hasn't had a chance since Cindy has been out of the office. As you pass by Andrea's cubicle, you overhear Caroline tell the others, "I'm telling you now, there's no chance you'll get Cindy to complete the review of the requirements any time soon.

She's not able to make those kinds of decisions on her own..." You remember when you first met Caroline and she told you how she felt that the Indigo HR Project should never have been approved and that the organization should have proceeded with replacing the inance system instead of the HR system. You wonder what Caroline is really up to.
