Project - Design of Gas Power Plant

A government organization is manufacturing steel components and is currently experiencing electricity shortage. The company has done initial research and has reached the conclusion that they should install a gas power plant due to its immediate start up time and low initial cost. The company requires minimum of 20MW and wishes to achieve a minimum efficiency of 36%. You are required to design a power plant for the organization with following objectives and constraints.

Objective -

20 MW <= Power Developed <= 25MW

Thernal efficiency >= 36%

Overall Cost <= 50,000 dollars

Constraints -

5<= Pressure Ratio at compressor <= 12

700^oc <= Max. Temp at inlet of gas turbine <= 1100^oc

200^oc<= Max temperature at turbine exhaust <=400^oc

Compressor isentropic Efficiency >= 80%

Turbine isentropic efficiency >= 80%

Regenerative Effectiveness >= 90%

1 <= Compressor inter-cooling stages <= 3

1 <= Turbine reheat stages <= 3

Please note that the cost vary with operating temperatures and introduction of intercooler and reheater. The company has maximum 50,000 dollar budget. The cost of simple power plant operating till temperature range of 1000K as highest temperature, without intercooler, regenerator and reheater is 30000 dollars. The cost of installing intercooler is 10,000 dollars. The cost for reheater at turbine section is 5000 dollars. The cost of installing a regenerator is 3000 dollars. If you want to operate turbine at high temperature than 1000K then cost for each 100K rise in temperature is 2000 dollars. Investigate the whole problem critically and select the appropriate pressures and temperatures and propose a lay out along with T-S Diagram for electricity generation.

You are required to submit a report with detailed design layout, calculations according to constraints given above, and T-S diagram.
