Assessment Task / Item

You're required to finish the game you prototyped for the previous assessment, which will have all of the final art and assets, functionality, music and sound effects, the main menu screen, level select, a final score screen that will let you restart the game and all of your levels feature complete. Once you've created your game, be sure to show us all of your fantastic work in another playthrough commentary video. This is an important part to make sure we don't miss any of the creative things you've put into your game!

Assessment Instructions

Turn your vertical slice into a finished publishable FPS game:
• All features should be complete.
• Your core-mechanic and abilities should be complete and fun to play.
• Finalise all of your assets.
o Art assets, music, sound effects, etc...
• Your UI should be finalised and implemented into the game.
o Health, lives, power-ups, abilities, ammo, score, timer, etc...
• Must have a minimum of 3 levels.
• All levels should be completable and should progress from one to the next.
o Make sure you design a good level progression system to keep the player engaged and having fun!
o The game should get progressively more difficult over each level.
o The game must teach the player through a tutorial level.
• All collectables and power-ups should be working and functional.
• Main menu, level select and end screen.
o You should be able to reset the game from the end screen.
• Build the game out into an executable file.
• Create a video playthrough of your game with your commentary over the top telling us all about your game!
o Try to use a screen recording software with voice built in like OBS.

The game name.
Give your game a fitting title, despite this being first in the list it might be helpful to design your game first then come back to the name later once you know what your game is all about.

About the game.
Give a brief description on your game as a whole, this shouldn't be too specific as the rest of your document will go into the specifics. Think of this more as an elevator pitch.
Is your core•mechanic unique?
If so, how? Explain how it will work.

What other games are you going to reference?
Find examples of some cool level designs and interesting core-mechanics that are similar to your own idea. The World/Environment.
A short paragraph on the theme/setting of the game.

What ability will you have?
To test your skills as a competent developer you'll need to design at least 1 ability that's not part of the standard FPS. Some examples of abilities:
• Super Jump, Dash, Heal, Gun Upgrade, etc... What is your goal?
Every game needs a win and lose condition, with that in mind what is the goal for the player to reach the next level?
• Collect all the keys, reach the portal at the end, etc...

Level Design • How will your levels play out?
You're required to make at least 3 levels. Level design is an important part of the game development process to make sure you keep your players engaged. Explain how your levels will progress.
• What obstacles will be in each level?
• What items/power-ups/ammo are available?
• Try to plan 1 of your levels out as a tutorial level to teach the player how to play the game.

What UI will you use in your game?
Your user-interface should tell the player all the information they need to know to play your game. Some example of user-interface items are:
• Ammo, health, items collected, ability cooldowns, etc...

Weekly Roadmap / Milestones.
Arguably one of the most important parts of project development is that we know what needs to be done by when. Try to create an estimation of what you think you'll need to have created week by week to complete this game by the final week. This is similar to a Gantt chart but you can style it in whatever way is best for you to read.
