EST 3543: Programmable Logic Applications and Device Integration
Problem No. 1:
A committee of four jurors decide the grade of a Senior Project presentation. Each juror must vote, and the vote must be either in favor or against. There are four possible grades that the jury can grant:
1. Not approved (if less than two jurors vote favorable);
2. Approved with reservations (if two and only two jurors vote favorably);
3. Approved satisfactorily (if three and only three of the jurors vote favorable); and
4. Approved with honors (if all four jurors vote favorably).
You need to design an automated voting system for the described voting system using PLC. Each juror should vote by pressing a normally open button for a favorable vote or not pressing the button for a vote against. The result of the voting should be displayed by one and only one or none of the three pilot lights:
1. None of the lights turn on when the project is not approved (less than two votes in favor);
2. A blue light turns on when the result of the voting is approved with reservations (two and only two votes in favor);
3. A green light turns on when the result of the voting is approved satisfactorily (three and only three votes in favor); or
4. A yellow light turns on when the result of the voting is approved with honors (all four votes in favor).
- Do not use latch and unlatch instructions.
- Assign sequential addresses to the input and output devices starting from bit 1.
