Pretend you are trying to program a computer to translate a typed memo into a message that can be sent over a loudspeaker. Write a short essay (about two pages) in which you discuss the following:

What steps must the computer carry out? Think about the input (printed words), the output (spoken words), and the steps that must happen in between. (You do not have to tell exactly how the computer will tackle these steps; just identify the steps it must complete to do this one task. For example, your first step might be "letter recognition," and your second step, "word recognition."

Note: Remember that your computer does not have to "understand" what it is reading aloud, nor does it have to carry on a conversation. It only has to translate typewritten memos into speech.
