Assignment Instructions
For this assignment students develop a set of questions to be asked during an interview of a professional in the field of psychology. Interview questions must be submitted for professor review and approval and for dialog on the Week 3 Forum of the course. The interview cannot be conducted before questions have been approved. Questions should inquire about the interviewee's job responsibilities; academic preparation for entry into the field including course work and practical hands-on training, on-the-job training and experience; continuing education and licensing requirements; courses they would recommend taking; satisfaction with the job, pay range and work environment; work/home life balance, how to avoid "burn-out" and recommendations the interviewee would make to anyone considering entering the field.
Students may NOT use friends, co-workers, family members, supervisors, bosses, college professors or persons not working in psychology specialty or very closely related areas for this assignment (e.g. Substance Abuse Counselors, Marriage and Family Counselors, psychiatrists and Social Workers (With be a LCSW-C) may be interviewed. Professionals with degrees and who work in fields which aren't psychology sub-disciplines cannot). Schools counselor's need prior approval. Persons interviewed MUST have a masters or doctoral degree and must work directly with clients/patients.
A paper, due at the end of Week 7 of the course, articulating questions asked during the interview and the interviewee's answers must be submitted with each question asked in bold font and the interviewee's answers in plain font font underneath to separate questions from answers. This paper will conclude with two to three substantive paragraphs describing what the student learned during the interview. Interviews may be conducted on site or on the phone but not using email, instant messaging or chat rooms. A brief letter of documentation from the interviewee indicating that the interview was conducted over the phone or in-person must be submitted to the course instructor's MyCampus email address located on the classroom syllabus page. The interviewee should cc the student interviewer to this email.
