Overview:

Communication is a critical component of every facet of an organization's operation. Today's information-based economy requires a growing number of employees to manage and process the information critical to the success of their organizations. Organizations communicate orally, in writing, and nonverbally. Selecting the best mode of communication requires careful analysis of the situation and the objectives to be accomplished by the communication. Many factors influence the decision to use one mode of communication over another, such as the:

  • Anticipated response of the recipient to how information is communicated
  • Sensitivity of the situation and to the recipient
  • The speed required
  • The need for documentation
  • Destination (internal or external) of the communication and the accessibility of the recipient
  • The costs involved

The assignment described below requires that you do the following:

  1. Review the Student Professional Writing Guide in your Start Here folder and in this week's folder
  2. Critically think of the mode of communication, decide on the message, and present a well-written response as instructed.
  3. Note that you will be graded on your critical thinking process, writing mechanics (i.e., grammar, punctuation, language usage), convention, and content of your written communication.

Recruitment and Selection

The recruitment and selection processes are two of the most important aspects of running new and established businesses. The right employees can take your business to extraordinary heights. The wrong ones can hurt business by missing sales, turning customers off and creating a toxic workplace environment.

Scenario:

You are the director of the Marketing Department of a medium-sized company. Recently, you have identified a list of open positions that must be filled.

Your Task:

  1. Write an email to your company's HR director requesting the hiring of a new marketing associate.
  2. Include a detailed description of the position, qualifications, pay (Note: You can provide a pay range).
