Neukrug (2016) states "counseling students, and counselors in general, all need to attend to their own wellness by embracing a wellness perspective if they are to be effective counselors" (p. 20). In this statement, the author highlights the inextricable link between two crucial concepts - counselor wellbeing and counselor effectiveness. Essay 2 explores this linkage and the manner in which these two elements of counselor identity and counseling practice interact. In order to do so, students will respond to the following questions:

In what ways does counselor wellbeing impact counselor competence and impact effective counseling practice? What self-care practices might counselors pursue to enhance the effectiveness of their work with clients?

Guidelines:

Responses to each of the question posed should be no less than 500 and no more than 1000 words of content each.

APA style should be carefully observed in the development of each response. APA format refers to font size, typeface, margins, and spacing, as well as the formatting of in text citations and the reference list. Headers and page numbers should be included on each page (see APA style manual). An abstract is not necessary for this assignment, but an APA style title page should be included.

In addition to the textbook, the essay response should cite a minimum of 2 additional references. In-text citations should be made as appropriate and each essay should include an APA style reference page/list.

In order to complete this assignment by the required deadline, reading ahead of assigned chapters and/or pursuing research outside of class assignments may be required. Reports should be presented in a narrative format. Theoretical tenets and concepts should be thoroughly articulated and clear connections with the provided case content should be made. Good writing quality is an essential element of an excellent academic paper. Writing style should be organized and concise, arriving at points in a logical and cogent manner.
