Assignment:
This assignment relates to the following Course Learning Requirements:
To culminate knowledge and skills acquired in this course by creating an entire HRM strategy and framework.
For this assignment, read the following scenario:
For a little more than three years you have worked as a human resources manager at a mid-size company that specializes in specialty wood products, and today you have been promoted to the role of vice-president -- congratulations! Your work has been successful and you are now in charge of the entire HR function of both merged companies. The business has 375 employees, most of whom have been with the company for nearly 25 years or less than five. Retirements are now happening quickly and you are having a hard time finding replacement employees. The need to rescale the company to align with the global marketplace is imminent. You have been tasked by the vice-president of operations to map out a comprehensive HR strategy that supports three key business objectives -- 1) sales growth; 2) employee productivity; 3) organizational culture. In your former role before the merger, you conducted planning checklists, mentorship and coaching programs, implemented an HRIS and stewarded the merger of two companies, including the downsizing of more than 100 people through retirements and layoffs.
Your company is doing well in sales, but productivity and organizational culture are less than ideal. You and your team decide that you require a unified HR planning framework to bring people together, upscale attitudes and drive toward success.
For Preparation:
Create a 1-2 page written or chart-format document that inventories the work that you have done to-date (throughout your course assignments).
Make a 1-2 page list of all of the other learning-based items that have not been included on your course assignments that you would include in an HR plan for your organization with a one-paragraph rationale on why you would include each one (5-7 examples required).
Draft a one page, rough timeline of how and when you propose to implement the missing pieces of your plan.
Summarize your plan in a succinct critical path with key milestones and deliverables in one page, in bulleted format.
