People can actually die by attempting to remove all carbohydrates from their diets. Some twenty years ago a well-known diet (the Adkins-diet) was based on just such a philosophy; the complete removal of carbohydrates from ones' diet. While no statistics are available, relating to the numbers of individuals that actually died due to their adherence to the diet, it has been well established that the diet can and has caused the death of its' participants. Which of the acids below causes physiologic and acid/base problems for individuals that cannot, for whatever reason, produce the majority of their cellular-ATP from carbohydrates?
