Description of Data
This data set contains the achievement test (English as a Second Language) results and some background data collected during experimental trial of a new ESL program. The study was one year in duration. Students were allocated to the experimental ESL program class and a regular program control class on a random basis. Vocabulary and grammar tests were administered to the students in both groups at the beginning and the end of the school year.
Data can be found in the excel file: ESLprogram.xlsx
Variables
The dataset includes 24 cases and 7 variables:
- Student ID
- Group (1 - experimental, 2 - control, 9 - missing)
- Gender (1 - male, 2 - female, 9 - missing)
- Pre-test vocabulary scores (scores range from 0 - 25, 99 - missing)
- Pre-test grammar scores (scores range from 0 - 25, 99 - missing)
- Post-test vocabulary scores (scores range from 0 - 25, 99 - missing)
- Post-test grammar scores (scores range from 0 - 25, 99 - missing)
What do I need to do?
1) please Present a description of your variables, provide a code book with the following element: variable name, variable label, value and value label and variable type (nominal, ordinal, continuous) please present it in the form of a table.(2 marks)
2) Examine your data using jamovi and provide output:
Produce appropriate descriptive statistics and graphics - examples of these are: measures of central tendency and variability, frequency tables, histograms, and bar charts.
i) Variables should be examined for overall data and broken down by at least one specific grouping or characteristic of the sample data.
ii) Provide the output from jamovi. It is important that the jamovi output contains the information included in the written interpretation or summary.
3. Summarize the findings:
a. Provide a written summary of the findings from part 2 above.This can be no longer than one-page and should
follow proper reporting of statistics and should not include any tables or graphs. Please ensure to provide enough information/description so that someone who has not seen your data can understand. Please use complete sentences .
