Assessment Item - Written Assessment

Part A of Assessment Task

All students

In Part A of this assessment task, you should analyse the given scenario and individually prepare and deliver a presentation on your contribution to the logical network design of your group using the top-down network design methodology. You should individually prepare the presentation slides and create a video of your presentation.

The part of contribution that you make should be agreed with your group members and communicated to your tutor and the unit coordinator via emailin Week 4.

If you are not in a group, i.e., if you are working individually, your video and presentation slides should cover the entire logical network design.

You should upload your presentation slides to Moodle and your video to YouTube, and provide the link to the video on the presentation slides. If you password protect your video, please ensure that you provide the login credentials to access the video as well. The length of your video should be limited to 4 min if you are in a group of 4 members, to 5 min if you are in a group of 3 members, to 7 min if you are in a group of 2 members and to 12 min if you are not in a group. Please note that a video presentation means that you, as the presenter, should be visible in the video.

Note:You must follow the Harvard citation and referencing guidelines when preparing your presentation slides.

Check the unit website at least once a week for further information relating to this part of the assessment task. Please ensure that you prepare your presentation slides in your own words to avoid possible plagiarism and copyright violation. You can understand the Plagiarism Procedures by following the corresponding link in the CQUniversity Policies section of the Unit Profile.

Part B of Assessment Task (individual or group)

In Part B ofthe assessment task, you will produce a written report of your logical network design.

Your report should include:

1) List of Business Goals and Constraints

2) List of Technical Goals and Tradeoffs

3) Table of User Communities, Data Stores, Network Applications and Traffic Flows

4) Model for addressing and naming

5) Explanation and justification of the logical network design

6) Logical network diagram(s) including addressing and naming

7) Discussion of routing and switching protocols

8) Discussion of security mechanisms

You should not include an executive summary, a table of contents, an introduction or a conclusion.

Note:You must follow the Harvard citation and referencing guidelines when writing your report.

Check the unit website at least once a week for further information relating to Part B of the assessment task. Please ensure that you write your report in your own words to avoid possible plagiarism and copyright violation. The Scenario for Network Design Assessment Tasks

Your company in Australia specialises in designing networks for local and international clients. Its new project is to design an enterprise network for a chain of medical centres of Utopimedlocated in the capital cities of all Australian states.Utopimed is managed from the medical centre in Melbourne.

Each medical centrehas 10chambers for GPs and 10 chambers for specialists so that a maximum of 20 doctors can see patients at a time. All chambersshould be equipped with computers connected to the enterprise network of Utopimed. In addition, there will beexercise treadmills, blood pressure monitors, ICU bedside monitors, blood sugar monitors in the chambers of specialists that will wirelessly send the data of the patients through the enterprise network. Each medical centre has a reception, a laboratory, a room for the visiting managementand aradiology unit as well.

The reception should havea photocopying machine, 3 computers and 3 telephones to take the appointmentsof patients.Laboratory staff will undertake most of the tests and produce results in-house,and rarely the specimens will have to be sent to a third party lab. The laboratory staffsupload the reports into the system, and the doctors can see them instantly. The third party labs can also upload reports directly into Utopimed’s system. The room for the visiting management has a computer and a telephone connected to the enterprise network.

Each radiology unit will have one unit from each of X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI and CTscan machines. All these machines should also be connected to the network where possible, so that all reports can be seen by the patient’s doctor/specialist immediately. More importantly, all current and past data of each patient will be analysed on the go by an intelligent software and the likely causes of the ailment will besuggested to the doctor. This will help the doctors to treat their patients faster and better.

In the waiting area of patients, the patients should be able to use their mobile devices by connecting to the free Wi-Fi network of Utopimed. This service can be used by them to connect to the Internet as well as to request and receive medical certificates from the doctor. Doctors do not issue or sign the medical certificates directly but the system does it automatically.

In addition to the abovementioned features that every medical centre of Utopimed has, the Melbourne medical centre has the managing director, an accountant, a secretary and an IT manager. They are located in an open office and they should be provided with a computer and a telephone for each, and a photocopying/printing machine common to all. Because of the high confidentiality, integrity and accountability (CIA) of patients’ records, the managing director does not support a cloud-based solution.

Using the top-down network design methodology, you are to design the enterprise network of Utopimed. Wherever possible, you should find all medical equipment which can be networked. There is no need to make any assumptions to design the network for Utopimed and any such attempts are discouraged. Each step of your network design should clearly explain and justify how you satisfy the business and technical goals.
