Assessment Task: Estimate a Project
Performance Objective
The learner is required to demonstrate their ability to establish the estimated costs associated with the acquisition of materials and labour on building and construction sites, together with the application of relevant overhead costs and margins.
Assessment Description
You are required to produce a take-off that details the estimated costs including materials, labour and plant and equipment for a given project. You will also be required to apply relevant overhead costs and margins to your estimate.

Submission Details
You are required to submit the following:
• A completed spread sheet using Microsoft Project or similar divided into the various stages of the project which should include;
• Demolition
• Earthworks
• Drainage
• Concrete
• Steel
• Depending on your project i.e for the bridge you would have to include;
• Traffic control/Relocation of services,and permits for same/OH&S compliance issues/new guttering and footpath works/Bitumen work etc.
• For the Glen Iris house project the stages would include
• Timber frame/Trusses
• Brickwork/Concrete tiles for roof
• Windows and Doors
• Plaster work and Tiles
• Fixing and Fitout
• Completed summary that includes the cost of each part, the calculated overhead recovery rate, profit margin and GST.
Use the take-off sheets provided to record the information for each section of the estimate.
Fill out the project details on each sheet and a title. Show all of your working. Use the provided rates and prices to do your costing.
You should ensure you save your work as you progress through the questions and backup your work in a safe place.
When you have completed your take-off, submit your assessment to your trainer via "Assessment Task 3: Estimate a Project" page on the Box Hill Institute StudentWeb.
The assessment task is due on the date specified by your assessor. Any variations to this arrangement must be approved in writing by your assessor.
Scenario
You have been asked to produce an estimate and provide a quote to construct a three bedroomweatherboard home with a Colorbond roof.
You are required to read and interpret the project plans so as to be able tointerpret measurements and calculate quantities and costs, identify materials required for the project, gather information about material supply and plan and allocate human resources.
The client will be providing the following things:

• Built-in robes
You will be receiving estimates for the electrical and plumbing from your regular electrician and plumber.
All prices for material and labour are excluding GST
For each of the sections listed below you are required to provide costing information that includes:
• all up price for the eachsection
• labour required and how many days or hours they are required onsite

You are required to cost the earthworks for this project.
The earthworks should include the cost to excavate and pour the pad footings and install the stumps.
