Assignment Brief and Guidance
Scenario:
Your company, "Carry on Clamping", has identified a gap in the market for jeweller's vices and wants to significantly increase its production capacity.
They have asked you to be the Manufacturing Lead for an efficiency improvement and NPI (New Product Introduction) project to allow them to manufacture their projected annual demand of 200,000 units. They have allowed you a budget of £350,000 for tools and equipment, and one year to plan, implement and commission a new production facility.
A technical drawing of the jeweller's vice Carry On Clamping produces will be issued to you, alongside this assessment.
Activity:
Plan a new production facility and manufacturing process for the new "BC003-01-GA Jeweller's Vice" (drawing available as supplement). Identify and evaluate equipment and tooling for the project, before putting together a justification for a CAPEX (capital expenditure) request to Carry on Clamping's board of directors. Include a detailed purchase and commissioning timing plan showing how you will install the new production line, to meet the project deadline, and adhere to any project gateway deadlines.
Your facility should be designed with efficiency in mind as the board is keen to maximise their returns on investment, so your justification report should include crucial considerations you made to maximise efficiency, and a feasibility study showing other options you considered and why you decided on your final proposal. Alongside your project plan, complete a written recording of the project's activities and decision making processes. A log book template will be provided.
Word count guidance:
The recommended word count is 1000-1500 words for the project plan, and 1000-1500 words for the recorded account
