2.Four Coursework Requirements
1.In reference to the taught content on international HRM, critical evaluation of global HR practices, e.g. strategic HRM models, managing expatriates, comparative HRM, global and local resourcing reward, global performance management, etc. in relation to organizational strategies, efficiency and effective management of people with clear recommendations for improvement. Guide word count: 1,250 words
Depending on the chosen organisation, you can choose an HR practice that is delivered at a global or a local level. If it is a global organisation, you need to look at its global operation; if it is an organisation operates locally, you need to investigate the domestic operation with a global outlook.
-Identify and discuss an area of HR practice that you have personal experience of and preferably one that is critical to the business operation
-Analyse and evaluate this area of HR practice in relation to the organisation of your choice
-Although you should focus on one area it is likely that this will interlink with other topics which you can bring in to enrich your analysis, e.g. while examining global performance management, could bring in the cultural aspects, development aspect...
-Always support your analysis with relevant and reliable literature, theories, models and practical examples remembering to correctly cite it in the text and reference correctly in the list of references.
2.In reference to the taught content on organisational behaviour and grievance and disciplinary management, critical review and analysis of global HR policies in an organisational behaviour topic area with recommendations on how to influence behaviour of employees. Topics could include conflict management, engagement, diversity, CSR, disciplinary and grievance. Guide word count: 1250 words
-Identify and discuss an area of organisational behaviour that is relevant to your organisation of choice and that you are interested in
-Analyse and evaluate the OB policy for your chosen organisation in light of current organisational issues
-If no policy is in place consider what should be included in the policy taking into account current organisational issues and justify your choices
-Always support your analysis with solid literature, theories, models and practical examples
3.Drawing on your analysis in parts 1 and 2 and any other factors including financial factors (in reference to the taught content on financial elements) you wish to consider, evaluate your chosen organisations holistic approach to global strategic HRM and make recommendations for improvement. In your analysis and recommendations take financial issues into consideration. Guide word count: 1000 words
-Further cross-sectional examination of the topics covered in part 1 and 2 and develop a holistic view of the organisations approach to international HRM. E.g. 1) global performance management could be linked to managing diversified workforce, conflict management... 2) psychological adjustment on managing expatriates could be linked to engagement, culture, training and development...
-Evaluate this approach in light of current organisational issues, you could consider convergence/divergence/cross-vergence; ethnocentric/polycentric/geocentric; best fit/ best practice; global talent management.
-Make informed and judged recommendations taking financial considerations into account, e.g. financial elements of cost, budget, BSC model, etc.
-Always support your analysis with solid literature, theories, models and practical examples
-Present your recommendations logically with clear supporting actions
4.In reference to your learning experience on this module, critically reflect on your personal learning on the module and explain how you will use this learning to inform your future HRM practice. Guide word count: 500 words
-Evaluate and discuss your learning using a reflective model as a framework for reflection identifying areas for further development
-Explain how you will apply this learning to your future practice to improve personal and organisational performance.
