To test the knowledge and understanding of the concepts and procedures for process instrumentation and communication systems used in process industries.

1. Visit a process industry in Oman and prepare a report on any TWO different measuring sensors (temperature / pressure / flow / level). The report should be structured to contain the following information,

a. Abstract / Summary of findings

b. Introduction to the industry

c. Describe the process and elaborate on the location of the sensor with the aid of a block diagram.

d. Piping and Instrumentation diagram to show the location of the sensor in the plant.

e. Data sheet of the sensors.

f. Construction and working principle of the sensors.

g. Discuss the factors affecting the process variable measurement in the process.

h. Advantages and disadvantages of the type of sensors used.

i. Calibration method and maintenance strategies for the identified sensors.

j. Discuss the field communication system used for the instruments.

k. Conclusion

l. Recommendations for improvement / replacement of sensor.
