Procedure - Loading and Unloading a Tubex Injector
Objective: Having been provided with a physician's order and the necessary equipment and supplies, you are to correctly load and unload a Tubex injector.
Directions: S stands for Satisfactory. U stands for Unsatisfactory. In the time allowed, complete the procedural steps listed below. You will need to obtain a satisfactory mark for this procedure in order to pass this class.
Procedural Steps:
1. Verified the physician's order.
2. Worked in a well-lighted, quiet, clean area.
3. Performed a medical asepsis handwash. Put on gloves.
4. Obtained a Tubex injector and sterile cartridge-needle unit.
5. Turned the ribbed collar to the "OPEN" position until it stops.
6. Held the injector with open end up, and inserted the Tubex sterile cartridge-needle unit.
7. Tightened the ribbed collar in the direction of the "CLOSE" arrow.
8. Threaded the plunger rod into the plunger of the Tubex sterile cartridge-needle unit until slight resistance was felt.
9. After use, did not recap the needle.
10. Disengaged the plunger rod.
11. Held the injector, needle down, over sharps container and loosened the ribbed collar.
12. Discarded the needle cover.
13. Removed gloves.
14. Washed hands.
