We focused on the difficult question of historical memory, and the silencing of memories which are not "appropriate" in public discourse or the official, national remembrance of an important event. Nurturing selective historical memory is something many societies do, because it is a way to move forward in difficult times. However, preferring to select certain way of remembrance over others is also dangerous, because it neglects or denies credibility and validity to those members of society who do not identify themselves with that memory.
With that in mind, think about this:
1) In the societies or communities where you come from or where you live, what are some areas or examples of problematic historical memory and who benefits from that? By that I mean: what events are officially chosen to be remembered in a certain way as opposed to those that are silenced or suppressed? Please share an image or video that is relevant to the topic you are mentioning.
