Question: The local bank president had the idea that the money held in individual savings accounts would be significantly different for males and females. A random sample of the dollars in male and female savings accounts was recorded as follows. Males: 5,600, 5,468, 5,980, 7,890, 8,391, 9,350, 10,570, 12,600, 8,200, 7,680, 6,000, and 8,900. Females: 4,900, 5,200, 5,000, 7,000, 8,000, 9,050, 9,900, 12,000, 8,000, 7,500, 5,900, and 8,500. Write the null and alternative hypotheses, and select the correct test to seek evidence in support of the bank president's contention that male and female saving habits are significantly different.
