Systemic Thinking

COLLAPSE

Systems influence individuals and individuals call forth systems. It is the relationship that evokes the present reality. Which potential becomes real depends on the people, the event and the moment (Wheatley, 2006). Describing a concept of a system to my leadership team of my estate sale company involving the setting up of an estate sale so the products are displayed in a way in which compliments the item and the home requires people to look at the whole picture before diving into the job. To help them understand what is acceptable and not acceptable we have an instruction handout which gives the guidelines with photos of acceptable and unacceptable setups. We also use an app called GroupMe. This allows us to send a photo when we find something unacceptable and follow it up with an acceptable photo. This gives them immediate feedback with a corrective example.

The structures of life are transient; they are capable of changing if needed: Caterpillar and butterfly, for example, are two temporarily stabilized structures in the coherent evolution of one and the same system. The system continues to develop, to release itself from the old and find new structures as they are required (Wheatley, 2006). Our setups continue to evolve as we do more and more estate sales. One would think after 14 years in business we would have a solid system that works and needs no changing, however, every house is different and has different items, different amounts of items which are in different conditions. This requires our system to adjust as the need arises. We do have the foundation of the setup to make items easy for customers to reach without getting hurt or damaging the items and display the items in a pleasant manner.
