Q1) Last fall, sample of n = 36 freshmen was chosen to participate in new 4-hour training program designed to improve study skills. To estimate effectiveness of new program, sample was compared with rest of freshmen class. All freshmen should take same English Language Skills course and mean score on final exam for whole freshmen class was m = 74. Students in new program had a mean score of M = 79.4 with standard deviation of s= 18.
a) On basis of these data, can college conclude that students in new program performed significantly better than rest of freshmen class? Use one-tailed test with a = 0.05.
b) Can college conclude that students in new program are significantly different from rest of freshmen class? Use two - tailed test with a = 0.05.
