Question

Prioritizing patient safety in the workplace is an important nursing practice that involves the continuous integration of information sharing and teamwork into daily procedures, effective communication, and patient-centered care. I believe that nurses should actively participate in committees, groups, and councils in order to have a voice in improving patient safety outcomes. It is important to include frontline individuals who are involved in completing a procedure in the selection and development of the checklist. The utilization of protocols and checklists is highly beneficial in decreasing patient harm and increasing patient safety. Working as a labor and delivery nurse I have several checklist/ protocols that I follow through my workplace that helps minimize patient harm and potentially death, one example is PPH. We have a very structured PPH checklist that is available in every room and operating room to help decrease mortality in delivering mothers.
