The checkpoint question reads, "If the Sun somehow suddenly collapsed to a black hole, what change would occur in the orbital speed of Earth?".The answer is nothing. We can fall back on the principles of Newton's Law of Gravitation. Even though though the sun collapsed, the mass and distance to earth would remain the same. Same with the Earth the mass and distance wouldn't change, therefore the force between the Earth and Sun remains the same. Also, nothing would happen to the orbits of the other planets either, or their natural satellites, because mass of the Sun would not change. A question that comes to mind after thinking through this is, what would change in the earth, planets, and solar system if our sun were to collapse into a blackhole?
