1). The traditional doctrine of informed consent is founded on the patient's right to have that information, even when it is bad, and the assumption is that the patient will be better off in the long run for having the information.

2). However, within the last hundred years the concept of therapeutic privilege has grown in acceptance, which is the withholding of relevant information from a patient when the physician believes disclosure would likely do harm.

Using the tools of moral reasoning we have discussed e.g. the principles of bioethics, which of these two concepts do you think is most appropriate and why?
