Mrs. Shirley Jones is a 73-year-old who has end-stage ovarian cancer. Her daughter, Danielle, is her primary caregiver at home. Mrs. Jones has been experiencing significant pain and unfortunately, her pain has not been well controlled. You are the home care nurse caring for her and have an appointment to perform a routine assessment. The patient and family have refused hospice care. The patient still wants to actively care for her disease and is not a DNR. Her daughter greets you at the door. She tells you that she was finally able to get her mother's pain under control and that her mom is finally resting. You ask Danielle which pain agent she used to help relieve her mom's pain. Danielle informs you that she crushed her mother's "Oxy" and put it in applesauce. She goes on to say that her mother has been sleeping soundly for five hours. She was concerned that she could not wake her mom to watch her favorite TV show. Upon entering Mrs. Jones's room, you find her sleeping very soundly. You are unable to arouse her. She is breathing shallowly at a rate of 10 breaths per minute. what does the patient need right.
