A 16-year old male presents to his primary care provider with complaints of a sore throat. His dad is present at the appointment with him and he states that he would like some antibiotics for his son because his son has strep throat again. When you ask what "again" means, the patient states that his girlfriend had strep a couple months ago, and then he got it too about a week later and he took antibiotics for it then. He thought it was better since then but now he is having symptoms again. His girlfriend does not have symptoms currently. He has had a low-grade fever for the past two days and notes some difficulty swallowing but he thinks it is just because his throat hurts. The only other symptoms he recalls is that he had a headache yesterday afternoon but it is not currently present. His dad states that his son never told him about the headache, but that's probably because for the past several days his son has been sleeping a lot more than normal. He states that he is taking naps throughout the day, several hours long, and that when he makes his son wake up from.
