In Katko v Briney, Supreme Court of Iowa 1971, what legal arguments can be used to support Briney's position that he was allowed to install a spring loaded gun to prevent trespassing on his property?

Please tell me how this is an incomplete question? The case is there, the date is there, the court is there. If you Google Katko v Briney, you will get a myriad of responses. I wanted to know what legal arguments can be used to support the position of Briney - who installed a spring loaded gun in an unoccupied farm house on his property to prevent trespassing. This is a standard case in any LAW class that is analyzed.
