My opinion on stem cell research collectively is pretty positive and very optimistic. As far as the arena of embryonic stem cells, it mirrors my overall opinion on stem cell research as a whole. I donated stem cells to my sister in who has Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in April of the current year and thus far she remains in remission and my stem cells, blood type, etc have completely taken over her system. There is no trace of the Leukemia and because her process was quicker than the 6 months to 1 year that they usually give patients who do the Allogeneic transplants, she is not a spokesperson to encourage others enduring the process.
As far as the embryos for stem cell research, I am also keen on that research for personal reasons. My Sun, whom as Sickle Cell SS Disease and has been in and out of the hospital since he was 3 months young would benefit from stem cells from an embryo for a transplant. The success rate of transplants for patients with sickle cell is steadily increasing and this research has been a life saver for quite a few patients already. I and his hematology team have been looking into this research to provide him with a better quality of life and even a curative method. So, suffice to say my opinion of this research is extremely hopeful and optimistic. I am looking to the future and greater advancements with this stem cell, especially in the embryonic field.
